Skills compound when they're shared.

I've spent a decade turning data into stories published on four continents. In my workshops I teach your team to do the same — with maps, with AI, and with the grant money to fund it all.

01 / Curriculum

I'll teach your team how to

Three hands-on modules, refined over a decade of trainings, fellowships and university courses. Take one as a half-day masterclass, or combine them into a multi-day bootcamp. Click each module to see what's inside.

Make maps and data visualisations

From a messy spreadsheet to a publishable map or chart — the full workflow, live.
  • The grammar of charts

How to choose the right visual form for your data — and how to spot (and avoid) the charts and maps that lie. Real examples from award-winning publications.

  • Maps that mean something

Geocoding, choropleths and point maps. We take a raw dataset and turn it into a publication-ready map during the session.

  • Find, clean, interrogate

Where to find data, how to clean it fast, and the questions to ask before you visualise anything. Every participant leaves with a reusable template and a tool kit for their team.

Use AI for data-driven storytelling

One AI-assisted pipeline, end to end: research → cleaning → visualisation → storytelling.
  • Research

Start the investigation with AI: mine documents, archives and datasets, summarise reports and FOIA hauls, and map sources and leads — with every claim traced back to its origin.

  • Cleaning

Turn messy inputs into analysable data: scanned PDFs, inconsistent spreadsheets and unstructured text transformed into tidy tables with LLMs — reproducibly, with every step logged and verifiable.

  • Visualisation

From clean data to charts, maps and interactives with AI coding assistants — the exact workflow I used to rebuild two data projects in days instead of weeks, as told to the Reuters Institute at Oxford.

  • Storytelling

Shape the final piece with AI as a sparring partner for angles, structure and headlines — plus the verification guardrails and ethics checklist that keep hallucinations out of print.

Win journalism grants & fund your projects

From funding map to winning proposal — based on grants I've won and judged.
  • The funding map

Who actually funds journalism — Pulitzer Center, European Journalism Centre, IJ4EU, foundations and innovation funds — what each of them wants, and how to match your idea to the right call.

  • Anatomy of a winning proposal

Framing, impact, budget and timeline, dissected line by line from real applications that won — including projects funded by the Pulitzer Center and the European Commission.

  • From pitch to project

You draft a one-page pitch for your own story during the session and get live feedback, plus a checklist for budgets, partners and reporting requirements.
